New Zealand born Polynesian glass artist David Helg has resided in Australia for the past twenty-seven years and has over thirty years experience in the glass industry and is deeply committed to creating innovative glass art using various techniques. David's passion for glass art commenced after a motor accident in 1983 which prompted David to focus in a new direction working in glass. He studied an advanced trade course in Tasmania for over 18months and during this course his glass experience included leadlight, tiffany, textured, slumped work, sandblasting and etching. His tutor was impressed with his natural ability and passion, encouraging him to pursue his dream to become a profound glass artist.

It was during this course that he stumbled on an idea that came from one of his prototypes, that prompted him to do further research in producing three dimensional cast glass art. Much of David's inspiration comes from the medium itself and separations of liquidity and light. David's process always begins from a central idea from his collection of thoughts through to natural occurring forms.

As the art piece develops he can transform a piece of glass into spectacular art forms that comes from many hours of research. His personal judgment and attention to detail are profound. David was rewarded with his quality when his  exclusive glass designs were chosen to adorn the mains and desserts buffet for the first and only'' Palazzo Versace Hotel'' in the World situated on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia. All glass vessels were fabricated in green glass and included Roman Styled Bowls, Sauce Platters, Seafood Platters, dessert floats and torte discs. David's glass designs were chosen amongst many glass designers including European designers.David's glass designs were passed by the design team at Versace House in Milan Italy.

David also had his glass designs requested by Harrods of London and they too were impressed by his quality and attention to detail and encouraged him to pursue his dream to become world recognized as a glass artist. David is fast receiving acclaim from around the world and has been asked to exhibit throughout the world.''My passion is to create prisms of reflected light through glass that captures the eye'' he says "I enjoy translating client's ideas into solid forms. He enjoys the challenge of his work and says the adventure for him is to develop all the resources necessary to create a variety of functional and decorative art in many forms. His passion is producing  spectacular three dimensional cast glass art that offer sensual lines and that are frozen in time. David's glass designs are all hand laid designs and therefore are all individual pieces. All commission art can be applied in any theme to within glass tolerances.
